Tutoring in science will usually supplement the school curriculum
How Does Science Tutoring Work?
Science tutoring is usually done in conjunction with the classroom instruction. Effective tutoring can result in several strategies.
Pre-Teaching
The school provides a curriculum map or book that outlines what will be taught during the year. The tutor will effectively teach the lesson in smaller “chunks” that helps the students to understand better. Then when that lesson is taught at school, the student will have advance knowledge helping them to be more successful with teacher instruction.
Science Projects
The student must complete most of this work on their own. The tutor’s role is to help them understand what specific information they need, where to find credible sources (and understand what is written), and to help them put this information together in a way that makes sense.
Outlining and Notetaking
The tutor will work with the student to help them organize their thoughts and produce the information in writing that will help them retain and internalize the important concepts of what is being taught.
PLEASE NOTE
If tutoring is done in your home, a parent MUST be present at all times. Arrangements can also be made to have lessons taught in a public setting like the library or other space that is comfortable and agreed upon. All students are taken as “at-will” clients and services made be cancelled at any time by either party for any reason.
