Meet the tutor – what are my credentials and experience?
Tutor Skills
My experience is very diversified. I have owned a local business and was the Director of Health for the City of North Adams before leaving to pursue my lifelong ambition of becoming a teacher. It was very hard having multiple jobs, serving on City boards, and raising a young family while my wife worked too. All the while, I had to go back to school nights and weekends to get my Master’s Degree in Education.
In my time teaching (I am certified in middle school subjects and administration in Massachusetts and Vermont), before taking a job as a Principal, I taught technology (K-8), health (PreK-8), and math (Grade 6). I also taught after-school programs, tutored in ELA and science, and coached.
My greatest happiness while tutoring comes from seeing the light bulb go off in their face when they grasp a concept and internalize it. I have found from my experience that each child learns differently. It is my responsibility as the tutor to find the most effective way for the student to be open to receiving instruction. If this means getting silly, prioritizing a hands-on approach, or going backward to go forward, then that’s what I do.
Many students have had me as a teacher or Principal. I invite you to talk to them and ask their opinion of me and my methods.
I will gladly produce my resume for your review if you book an evaluation. It is informal and usually takes less than one hour. References can also be discussed at that time.
PLEASE NOTE
If tutoring is done in your home, a parent MUST be present at all times. Arrangements can also be made to have lessons taught in a public setting like the library or other space that is comfortable and agreed upon. All students are taken as “at-will” clients and services made be cancelled at any time by either party for any reason.
